Chris Miller

What’s your name and What did you do prior to coffee?

Chris Miller While studying computer science in Edinburgh I got a normal part time job that progressed into the coffee industry. That was 1999!

When and how did you first get into Coffee?

1999 I got a part time job in Marks and Spencers. During training I volunteered for a new project they were doing and ended up as their first barista. Never looked back!

How did you get involved in SCA?

I entered the Irish championships after it being suggested to me and made the final. Entered several times since. I’ve tried to be involved as much as I can over the years.

What encouraged you to become an ambassador and what area do you cover?

I’ve been passionate about doing as much as I can in the coffee industry but being out of Dublin alienates us from doing as much as what happens there. Being and ambassador would allow me to use my knowledge and skills in a greater way down here. Kilkenny and South East would be roughly the area.

Where do you see the chapter going with your involvement?

I see us moving to a more national group involving all sizes of community. We’d be able to reach out to smaller communities and raise awareness of all aspects of coffee and quality standards that can be achieved.

Why would you encourage people to become members of SCA?

From my personal experience, its a great way to learn, meet new people, fun interesting events, it’s a sign you’re proud of what you’re doing and internationally recognized.

What coffee are you currently drinking and how is it brewed?

While out Im drinking a single sourced Guatemalan as espresso or latte depending on mood and at home I’m on a Yirgacheffe, wet processed through a chemex.
